How to convert PDF to JPG

Choosing a resolution

  • 72 DPI keeps the page at its on-screen size: an A4 page becomes about 595 × 842 pixels. Good for previews and messages.
  • 150 DPI doubles the detail, about 1240 × 1754 pixels for A4. A good default for reading on screen and in presentations.
  • 300 DPI is print resolution, about 2480 × 3508 pixels for A4, with much larger files.

How pages are rendered

Pages are drawn by PDF.js, the PDF renderer used by Firefox, running on this page. Fonts and character maps it needs are loaded from wedoconvert.com itself; the PDF is not uploaded.

Pages are rendered one at a time on a white background. If one page fails, the others are still exported and the failed page is named. Very large pages above 32 megapixels are reported instead of silently being made smaller.

What DPI should I choose?

Use 150 DPI for screens and documents you share digitally, 300 DPI when the images will be printed or you need to zoom into small text, and 72 DPI for quick thumbnails.

Is each PDF page exported separately?

Yes. Every selected page becomes its own JPG file. With more than one page you can download all images in one ZIP.

JPG or PNG: which is better for PDF pages?

JPG gives smaller files and suits pages with photos. PNG is lossless and keeps text and line art crisp, at a larger size. Use PDF to PNG for the lossless version.

Can I convert a password-protected PDF?

No. Encrypted PDFs are reported as encrypted. Open the file with its password in your PDF reader and save an unprotected copy first.

Will the text in the image still be selectable?

No. A JPG is a picture of the page. Keep the original PDF if you need to copy or search the text.
