How to convert PNG to WebP
- 01
Add your PNG files
Select one or many images.
- 02
Pick compression and transparency
Choose lossy with a quality slider or lossless, and keep or flatten transparency.
- 03
Convert and download
Compare the size change and download the WebP files or a ZIP.
Which compression to choose
- Lossless: every pixel is kept. Best for logos, icons, UI screenshots and pixel art.
- Lossy: smaller files with a quality slider. Best for photos and gradients stored as PNG.
- Lossless is only offered when your browser has been confirmed to produce genuine lossless WebP.
Transparency
WebP supports an alpha channel in both lossy and lossless mode, so transparent areas stay transparent. Turn off Preserve transparency to flatten the image onto white.

Frequently asked questions
Does WebP keep PNG transparency?
Yes. Transparency is preserved by default in both lossy and lossless WebP.
Is lossless WebP smaller than PNG?
Often, but not always. The tool shows the size change for every file, so you can see whether the conversion is worth it.
Why is lossless missing from the options?
The tool checks whether your browser's encoder really creates lossless WebP. If it does not, the option is hidden rather than producing lossy files under a lossless label.
